Forced Disconnect

We're having some problems with our phone line, so our internet service has been spotty of late. Self-imposed disconnection is bad enough, but when it is not of my own making it feels like I have had an arm or leg amputated. Proving that my dependence on being so connected may not be that good a thing. So I am embracing the disconnect, and exploring other ways of waking up in the morning. In the meantime, feel free to wander over to my little etsy store.
I'm having a grand opening sale and added some fun goodies found at the Flea Market and various similar locations.

One man's trash

We went "junking" again over the weekend. It was rainy, but there was an okay turn-out of sellers. We spent several hours browsing and bargaining. As usual I was on the look-out for vintage trims and buttons and I really struck gold this time. I definitely have my two favourite haunts there now! Lucas was on the lookout for "whatever", and ended up with assorted kitchen utensils, including the working half of a coffee grinder that he plans to repair. When? The jury is still out on that one. Lucy, who is a great bargainer, ended up with a milk pitcher from Limoges, among other treasures. I came across many wonderful pieces of furniture as well as linens, the kind of things I hope to buy one day to furnish and decorate our home. Some research is definitely called for though, since from some of the prices quoted I'm obviously clueless about the history and value of many of the things I saw. We left a happy (if somewhat chilled) bunch.

Yesterday

Yesterday was a lovely day. Not weather wise, it rained all day long and was cold. Lovely because we spent most of the day with Lucy and Loic. Early in the morning we went out to Les Puces du Canal, the flea market in Villeurbanne. It was somewhat disappointing- because of the weather or maybe the fact that it was a holiday- not many of the permanent stalls were open, and the box sellers were nowhere to be found. I did find a few goodies though.

After our chilly morning we went back to their place for lunch. After a fresh and delicious salad to start, Lucy grilled up some steaks and sauteed some potatoes. She used this amazing spice mix called zata (ok I'd had a glass or two of wine by the time she mentioned this so maybe that's not quite the right name. Lucy?). We had fresh strawberries and freshly made whipped cream for dessert (as well as the whipped-cream incident, but my lips are sealed!).

Then we just hung out, looking at photos and chatting. Thanks Lucy for the flea market suggestion! If not for that I probably would have spent the day watching TV or lost online, but instead had a wonderful experience.
