Journaling: Babe, even though I had to jump over a fire, on a freezing cold and snowy day, with no one from my family there, I wouldn't change a thing!
The story behind the jump:
When we got back to the house after the ceremony we found everyone out in the street waiting for us. Our neighbour Pierre, was standing next to this weird straw contraption. He explained to Lucas, who translated for me, that this tradition dated back to the days when a young man would marry a young lady from a different village and after the wedding the villagers would erect a barrier across the road leading out of the village as a way to "prevent" the young man from taking his bride away from her home. It would be lit on fire and the young couple would have to jump over it to demonstrate their freedom and the start of their new life.
