You have to name it to claim it

Pretty much the first question people ask me these days when they see me is "Have you found a job yet?". Usually I dissemble and mumble something about working on it, and that I'm sure things will work out soon. Last week I decided that I was tired of that, and that if my desire is truly to be a Freelance Scrapbook Designer, then I needed to claim it, to state unequivocally that this is what my job is.

What an empowering difference! Once I say that this is what I am doing, I can then confidently continue to explain what my plans are and how this is working for me so far. It is also giving me the confidence to seek out new opportunities. Yesterday Lucas and I were at a Craft Expo that's held in Lyon annually, and while in discussion with one of the store owners, she mentioned that she would be attending another expo in November and running small classes. Lucas asked if she was looking for anyone to help out, and within five minutes I had a job. I'll be working in her booth and also doing a class over 5 days. I'm excited because doing classes is one of the areas I am interested in and this will be a great start.

I also got some great news on our return from our trip. I was invited to join the Design Team at Scrappin Trends, and I will have my first layout published next year in a new magazine called Classy Scrapper Magazine. I am so grateful for all the opportunities that are coming my way, and I will continue to learn and grow, and hopefully never take any of this for granted. I am so constantly amazed that this is the direction my life is taking, that I hope to never become jaded.

Now maybe as part of the claiming it I need to design some business cards!

Hey, Francine --

Congratulations to all that is coming your way! And actually, yes -- some of the best advice that was given to me when I started pursuing writing was to get business cards immediately saying that I am a writer -- something about having something concrete to hold in your hands proclaiming what you assert yourself to be is incredibly empowering.

Good luck with your journey -- you're going to do great!

Hey Fran,
Funny that you should realize that you are into a new career.

My answer to the question Has F found a job as yet? has been for some months now, She is into a whole new career and building on it.
Last night John King and Al Gilkes were making the point that in Barbados, Art is not considered as a career. One still has to have the DEgree etc etc. I smiled when I thought that you did all that only to move to this new direction And here I am reading this entry today.
