Market Day

Every Saturday morning from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon there's the local market Marche de la Bussiere on our street. When we first moved here we went religiously every week, but less and less over the last several months. However today we made the effort and woke up (relatively) early to go stock up on fruits and veggies. I forgot just how much fun it was to attend the market, to see all the fresh fruit and vegetables beautifully displayed, not forgetting other items like cheese, eggs, fish, meat, bread, plants, and even clothing.

I love French markets, the large ones always have a huge variety of items, you can get anything from thread, fabric and ribbon, to nails, tools, traditional North African clothing, toiletries, leather goods and always fresh vegetables and fruit. I love the fact that every town has its market day or days and that this is still primarily the way that the French shop for their food. It's true that nothing beats produce fresh off the farm, and while in many cases the price is less than the supermarket, we are also happy to pay a bit extra to be able to eat great produce that comes directly from the farmers.

Oh that market looks awesome. I must really try and go to the farm stands this summer and get some fresh stuff.
