Grenada

Home at last! 6 hours late, but better late than never right?

We got to Grenada at 9:30 p.m. instead of 3:25 p.m. thus effectively losing a half day of our vacation thanks to LIAT. After finally getting on the plane to Barbados, where my Mum would be joining us on the flight, we were left standing on the tarmac at Grantley Adams for over an hour without any information. Luckily we did meet our Mum at the gate. Eventually they transferred us to another flight leaving later and had us go sit in the terminal. After a series of announcements where it seemed like different people were making a new decision every 5 minutes we boarded a plane and took off at approximately 8:10 p.m. And miraculously our luggage made it too!

Grenada was all about family. The majority of my aunts, uncles and cousins still live here, many of whom I haven't spent time with in years. My last three visits to Grenada were all for funerals, and were all pretty short and sad. I was happy to be there under different circumstances, and so was Lucas.

But one week sure wasn't long enough. My Mum's family lives primarily in St. Andrew and my Dad's family in St. George's. (Map of Grenada) The distances weren't long, but it was over hilly winding roads . There just wasn't enough time to see everyone, but I did see all my aunts and uncles, if only for 5 minutes. Most of my cousins have children now, many of whom I barely know, or saw when they were babies, or hadn't met before. We plan to spend a much longer time on our next trip, there were a few cousins that I didn't see at all this time.

We celebrated Christmas with my Aunt Winnie (we stayed at her house). For Christmas lunch we had all my favourite dishes, and we brought a French touch of wine and foie gras. Of course we went to Grand Anse Beach, and did a bit of sightseeing, including a rum distillery, the nutmeg processing pool, and one of the forts looking over the capital. It was short but oh so sweet!
